JULY

Beginning Figure Painting in Oil
Tuesdays July 6th, 13th, 20th
10am – 2pm
Cost: $175

Using a photograph (which will be provided) of a nude figure as a reference, students will be introduced to a painting methodology that simplifies the process of figure painting. The focus will be on paint mixing, interpretation of flesh tones, and paint application. Other areas of concern will be creating a strong composition and sound figure structure. All levels are welcome to attend but this class will be focusing on fundamentals for beginners.

Advanced Painting Group
Wednesday March 10, 17, 20
10am – 2pm
Cost: $165 

This class is for advanced painters who are interested in developing a common theme in a series of paintings. Participants may work from photos, the computer, or from imagination. The focus will be on the formulation and execution of painting ideas. Instruction will come in the form of personal coaching and group critiques. This group meets regularly and classes are ongoing throughout the year. Members are selected based on ability and experience, if you are interested in joining please email info@cynthiagrilli.com.

AUGUST

Beginning Portrait Painting in Oil
August 14th and 15th
Saturday and Sunday 10am – 3pm
Cost: $200  (includes model fee)

Students often forsake form when they paint a portrait because their primary concern is to describe the features of the face. When the underlying structure of the skull is ignored, the result is inevitably a flat and disproportionate image.  In this class, students will learn to see the shapes created by the passage of light across form and will thus achieve the “likeness” that is of primary concern to portrait artists. By investigating the relationship between the head and shoulders as well as exploring various compositional possibilities and color combinations, students will create paintings that are imbued with atmosphere as well as accuracy.  Art historical references and demonstrations will to solidify the information presented.  Students of all levels of ability are welcome to attend.
